What is the Importance of Certification?

Any solution designing requires in-depth knowledge of product and experience of making a solution using different products. It becomes very difficult to understand the quality of any product especially when it is coming from different part of the world. Certifications is the answer to it. There are global standards which ensures the best quality of a particular product type.We need to have deeper understanding of the standards and the labs certifying the standard of the product. For eg. UL294 is one of the leading global standard for access control system. UL294 has version 7 as latest which takes care of the latest updated standards in access control system. UL294 has four levels of parameters which defines capability of working against cyber-attack, built quality, encryption levels etc. then you have UL certified and UL listed products. With all this in mind, UL294 standard alone has no meaning if any product is UL certified for some older version and having basic level of security [level 1].
